The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, especially in the north, is still taking a turn for the worse and threatens new victims via starvation due to the policy of the strict siege imposed by the occupation forces.

The Civil Defence Authority in Gaza once again confirmed that the residents of the northern Gaza Strip are facing a siege, bombing, killing and starvation.

Mahmoud Basal, the spokesperson for the authority, stated that the occupation forces are still preventing their crews from entering many of the areas being targeted, noting that dozens of homes have been bombed, collapsing over the heads of their residents, with people still trapped under the rubble.

The Director of Ambulance and Emergency services in northern Gaza, Fares Afana, confirmed that some injured Palestinians are now taking their final breaths in hospitals due to the lack of supplies. He added that the situation in the northern Gaza Strip is catastrophic and that what is happening is a real genocide. He called for putting pressure on the occupation to allow aid into Jabalia camp: “The situation is tragic and beyond our control, and ambulances are facing difficulty moving.”READ: Israel cuts internet in northern Gaza amid its ethnic cleansing of Palestinians

In the same context, the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, warned: “Intolerable famine is looming.”

In statements reported by the UN website, he called for the immediate opening of crossing points to Gaza, removing bureaucratic obstacles and restoring law and order so that UN agencies can provide life-saving humanitarian aid.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that the Israeli military operations in northern Gaza are seriously endangering tens of thousands of civilians, reiterating the need to protect civilians in the northern Gaza Strip and throughout it.

He explained: “The offensive military operations in northern Gaza are also blocking people’s access to basic supplies for their survival, including water.”

It is worth noting that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, confirmed that the forced displacement carried out by the Israeli occupation army against a large part of the Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip is a war crime and stressed the need for human rights to be at the heart of all discussions in the UN. He stressed the importance of this, especially considering developments in the Middle East.
